Islam is nothing, according to Google

January 15th, 2010 by Rab No comments »

I was reading this article over on The Register at the start of the week and it was talking about a “bug” in Google’s predictive search where if you begin typing “islam is” into the search field on the main page nothing is suggested.

The weird thing about this is that if you type the name of any of the other major religions you get a list of suggestions, such as “christianity is bullshit” or “judaism is satanism”.

It would appear that Google fears the wrath of the other Abrahamic religions devoted followers ie. the ones who claim to be doing Allah’s will when they blow themselves and everyone around them into the next postcode area.

Now, I wondered to myself whether this same phenomenon (Google providing no suggestions) happened with other search terms, so I tried some out. Here’s a list of the few which I tried which returned no suggestions:

  • christians are
  • jews are
  • buddhists are
  • muslims are

And here’s some which did provide suggestions, even though there were very few:

  • hindus are
  • sikhs are
  • nazis are

I can’t imagine that there are zero web pages containing the term “christians are” in Google’s search index. In fact I know there isn’t zero. According to Google there are over 28 million results for the term “christians are”.

So what does this mean? Do Google only hire christians, jews, buddhists and muslims and don’t want to hurt their employee’s feelings? Are they frightened that these people will spit the dummy out if they see a suggestion which disagrees their beliefs? What about the hindus and sikhs? Like most of the rest of the world it’s pretty plain they wouldn’t have any issues with having the nazis seeing a suggestion which disagreed with their ideology.

I guess what I’m really asking here is do Google have an issue with free speech? They claimed it was a bug in the article on The Register, but going by what I found above it looks pretty deliberate to me.

I’m not dead! Not that there’s many people reading this to care, but it’s a nice idea none the less. I’ve just been working like hell. Normal service will resume soon.

John Safran goes around annoying mormons after being woken by them repeatedly

October 11th, 2009 by Rab No comments »

This is genius.

Watch the video.

Australian filmmaker John Safran is so fed up with mormons ringing his doorbell early in the morning that he flies to Salt Lake City Utah and tries to convert Mormons to atheism. Needless to say, the locals were not pleased.

Why do people laugh at creationists?

October 8th, 2009 by Rab No comments »

While I’m in the mood to make anti-religious posts, here’s a video I just enjoyed which spits in the face of the “creator”.

Giving your “soul” to any supposed creator would be a waste of what said alleged creator would consider their greatest gift to you, your life. Their next greatest gift would be your brain, try using it and stop listening to the propaganda of clerics who want you to fund their tax dodging businesses.

Do good things because you’re a good person, not because someone told you to. Whether or not heaven exists doesn’t matter, you’ll be making someone else’s life better through your actions. Anybody trying to do good things in an effort to get into heaven is doing it for all the wrong reasons.

One nation under god

October 7th, 2009 by Rab No comments »

If you know me, you’ll know I’m agnostic, but christians (notice how I don’t capitalise christians or god) would probably label me as an atheist. And they’d be absolutely correct, as far as their “god” is concerned. The same applies to all other religions and cults which claim their god is the “one true god”.

It’s a pile of crap.

The thing which makes me agnostic is the fact that I’m open to the idea of something much bigger than us, not necessarily a “god” or a creator, but something which could have had an influence in whatever caused the big bang. I don’t pray to this being because I have no idea whether or not it exists, and why would it listen to me if millions of billions of trillions of other beings throughout our universe are all trying to be heard also? So I just get on with making the most of my life, as everyone else probably should, without hurting anyone else in the process.

Jon McNaughton on the other hand believes everyone should bow before his god. He has proven this by the sheer effort he’s put into creating this painting. Now, I respect everyone’s right to believe whatever they want to believe, but effectively telling everyone “what you think is wrong and what I think is right and that’s how this country should be”. Just like Barrack Obama said, the USA is not a christian nation, hell half of the founders were free masons!

As you’ve probably gathered I’m not a big fan of organised religion, and I’m not much of a writer (just in case I appear to be rambling on, but that doesn’t matter, this is my site to ramble and rant on). The fact of the matter is I see a lot of people being brainwashed into believing something which has been passed down through the generations for no reason other than “it’s what my parents believe”. Before that was the case people started saying they believed in bearded men up the sky because they were persecuted and murdered by christians unless they claimed christ as their saviour.

I might sound a bit preachy sometimes myself and I have to admit it’s not something I like, however it astonishes me when I see seemingly intelligent people praying to an imaginary friend because some guy in a black dress and a dog collar told them they’d be rewarded with everlasting bliss in heaven with all the good (read: boring) people who also fell for his brand of propaganda. These supposedly intelligent people need to wake up and smell the coffee, otherwise they’re just cowards shivering in fear at the idea that death is the end, which in itself is stupid, because how in the hell are they gonna know anything about it?!?

People need to have faith in each other, not some fairy story some guy put in a big book in the fifth century for political gain (Roman Emperor Constantine, a pagan until the day he died).

One day the people who believe will have their faith tested, and their god will let them down.

Now, if this gets any decent traffic I fully expect some really nasty comments from so-called “christians” who hate anything which doesn’t have a confederate flag on it. Go read your book and learn about forgiveness, I’m sure the families of the millions killed in the name of your god have forgiven you already.

My beliefs

If you’ve reached this point, thanks for reading, you might be wondering just exactly what I do believe in as opposed to what I don’t. Being honest, I don’t believe in anything, the only thing I know for certain is that I know nothing. Beliefs are powerful things which can make people do bad things to each other, I much prefer positive ideas, but those who crave control (politicians, churches, right wing religious politicians in countries trapped in the 14th century) would never be happy with that.

My own life philosophy can be summed up in 2 phrases which can be applied to every situation imaginable, and here they are:

  • Don’t be a dick (don’t do anything which could negatively impact anyone else’s life)
  • Enjoy yourself (otherwise, what’s the point? Something tells me it isn’t to be a slave to those who force beliefs on you)

On that note, I’m going to leave you with a song by a man deeply hated by the right wing conservatives who want to control you through the fear of god for their own personal political gain. Enjoy.

And if you really need it hammered home, here’s a clip from a man who said it much better than I ever could. Rest in peace George.

This should be a good one. Haven’t really listened to them much in recent years, but listening to this brings back some Bedlam nostalgia.

A lot of people consider Denis to be a Bill Hicks rip off. Whether or not they’re right, this is still a cracking set.

This is just weird. Why anyone would come up with this I have no idea. Maybe they’re associating the presence of Windows on a PC with it having some kind of cancer.
